Tick, Tick… Boom! is a semi-autobiographical musical by Rent creator Jonathan Larson.

It follows Jon, a struggling composer in 1990s New York, as he approaches his 30th birthday and grapples with self-doubt, career uncertainty, and the pressure to succeed in the theatre world before time runs out.

As he balances his artistic dreams, a strained relationship, and his best friend’s shift to corporate life, Jon questions whether his passion is worth the struggle.

The story reflects Larson’s own experiences and foreshadows his later success, as well as the fleeting nature of time.
